Summary Operates controls for capping machine and ancillary equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions Operates controls for the feeding line, brine pump, brine conveyor, capper conveyor, and jar washer conveyor.
Uprights overturned jars and hand-fills with product or liquid as needed.
Frees jammed jars on line or jammed caps in chute.
Removes jars which do not conform to Company specifications (slack pack, foreign objects, poor quality).
Follows defined broken glass procedures.
Notifies Pasteurizer Operator of product change, lunch, break or end of shift by placing empty gallon jar on line.
Remove all jars under briner at break, lunch or end of shift.
Turns off all switches at break, lunch or end of shift.
Completes shift downtime report from briner conveyor to pasteurizer.
Lifts boxes of caps weighing approximately 40 pounds, dumps caps into hopper as needed.
Keeps work space clean and tidy.
Follows safety rules and company policies.
Other duties Switches brine pump off as needed.
Carries all empty bottles that are reusable to glass washer area to be rewashed for later use.
Turns in broken and thin-walled jars to Supervisor with name of company, number of jars lost and amount of product discarded.
Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc.
as appropriate.
Receives written instructions from packing schedule or verbal instructions from supervisor on above tasks and performs other work as directed by supervisor.
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities High school graduate or equivalent preferred Ability to read, write and speak English preferred.
Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions required for job tasks.
Supervisory Responsibilities None Machines, Equipment, Tools Used Capping machine, Conveyor, Syrup pump, Feed-in line, Brine conveyor, Washer conveyor, Brine pump, Hand Tools, Safety Gloves.
Physical Demands Reaching:
Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Standing:
Particularly for sustained periods of time.
Pushing:
Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
Fingering:
Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
Standing:
Particularly for sustained periods of time.
Climbing:
Ascending or descending short ladders/stairs to reach job site.
Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as:
operates machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws, and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach, performs mechanical or skilled trades or a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.
Work Environment Works inside, subject to some seasonal temperature variations and wetting from job tasks.
Hearing protection required because of machinery noise.
Head cover, beard cover and gloves required.
